Census Deadline for Foreign Nationals in Burundi Extended

The Ministry of the Interior, Community Development, and Public Security in Burundi has announced an extension to the deadline for registering foreign nationals living in the country. In a statement released on Thursday, March 28, 2024, the ministry informed all foreigners residing in Burundi, including refugees, that the census period had been extended until Saturday, March 30, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.

The registration activity is taking place at the offices of all communes of Bujumbura City Hall and the administration offices of all provinces across the country. All foreigners and urban refugees are required to attend the census with the necessary documents allowing them to settle in Burundi. Refugees must bring their refugee cards for identification.

This is not the first time such a census has been conducted in Burundi. In 2016, the government launched a census to register all foreigners in the country, providing a two-month deadline. The majority of foreigners residing and working in Burundi come from various countries, including Asia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali, Rwanda, Senegal, and Uganda.

It is important for all foreign nationals in Burundi to comply with this census requirement and ensure their registration is completed within the extended deadline. This initiative aims to gather accurate data and enhance the management and security of foreign residents in the country.
