Jordanian Jets Scramble After Suspicious Activity Detected Near Syrian Border

The Jordanian military scrambled fighter jets on Monday after their air defense radars picked up unidentified aerial movements near the country’s border with Syria. The source of the activity remains unknown, but a regional security source speculates it could be missiles launched by Iranian-backed militias operating in Iraq.

According to witnesses in the northern Jordanian city of Irbid and areas close to the Syrian border, Jordanian jets were heard patrolling the airspace. The Jordanian army confirmed that an air force squadron was deployed to ensure the security of the country’s airspace and intercept any potential threats.

This incident comes amidst heightened regional tensions. In January, a drone strike on a US base in Jordan, blamed on Iranian-backed militants, resulted in the deaths of three American service members. Jordan has since sought to bolster its air defense capabilities, requesting Patriot missile systems from the United States.

The exact nature of the recent aerial activity near the Syrian border remains unclear. Further developments are expected, and this blog will be updated with any new information.
