Legends Tower Poised to Become America’s Tallest Building as Funding Secured

The dream of an Oklahoma City skyscraper reaching for the top of the US skyline is closer than ever. Developer Scot Matteson has secured the necessary funding for Legends Tower, a behemoth planned to be the tallest building in the country.

This news comes after initial proposals for The Boardwalk at Bricktown, a mixed-use development featuring Legends Tower as its centerpiece. Designed by Californian architecture studio AO, the skyscraper will pierce the sky at a staggering 1,907 feet (581 meters) if completed, surpassing current leader One World Trade Center in New York City.

The project’s price tag sits at a cool $1.5 billion, encompassing not only the record-breaking tower but also three surrounding structures. Construction kick-off could be as early as September, with preparations potentially starting in June.

“We will be first getting a grading and infrastructure permit,” Matteson revealed, hinting at a multi-stage permitting process. Local construction consultants Thinkbox and engineering firm Thornton Tomasetti are reportedly part of the team bringing Legends Tower to life.

While funding is secured, the final hurdle appears to be the building permit itself. Matteson emphasized, “The entire project is financed, including the tower — if the tower gets approved.”

This news has Oklahomans and architecture enthusiasts alike buzzing with anticipation. With a potential groundbreaking in just a few months, Legends Tower’s journey from proposal to reality seems to be gaining momentum.
