Namibian Deputy Minister Faces Cattle Dispute in Divorce Case

Windhoek, Namibia – A high-profile divorce case in Namibia has taken an unusual turn, with former ambassador Kaire Mbuende seeking the return of 80 head of cattle he allegedly donated to his wife, Deputy Minister Maureen Hinda-Mbuende.

Mbuende filed for divorce last week, citing a marriage out of community of property and no children. According to his claim, the cattle were a gift to Hinda-Mbuende to help her secure a loan, with the understanding that ownership would revert to him after the loan was obtained.

The crux of the dispute lies in Hinda-Mbuende’s refusal to register the cattle in Mbuende’s name, despite their alleged agreement. Mbuende is requesting a court order enforcing the transfer of ownership and a provisional divorce order.

Hinda-Mbuende has declined to comment on the allegations, citing health reasons.

This case sheds light on Namibia’s marital property laws and the complexities of financial arrangements within marriages. The outcome will be closely watched, with implications for similar situations and potentially for the public image of the officials involved.
