The Role of Oman in Supporting Peace Efforts in Yemen

Tim Lenderking, the US Special Envoy for Yemen, has emphasized the crucial role played by the Sultanate of Oman in supporting de-escalation efforts in the Red Sea and promoting peace in the region. During a telephonic press briefing, Lenderking acknowledged the significance of Oman’s partnership and its commitment to the peace process in Yemen.

Lenderking recently met with Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, the Foreign Minister of Oman, and praised Oman’s support for the peace process and its utilization of the ceasefire to address the humanitarian needs in Yemen. He also highlighted the importance of consulting with both Oman and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), given their proximity to Yemen and their role in maintaining stability and peace in the region.

Lenderking further expressed concern about the ongoing attacks on maritime navigation in the Red Sea, which hinder the delivery of humanitarian aid to Yemen. He emphasized that such threats not only disrupt the arrival of essential supplies but also contribute to the global inflation crisis by driving up food prices.

The US Special Envoy is actively engaged in consultations with regional partners, focusing on de-escalation through diplomatic channels and leveraging collective efforts to achieve lasting peace for the Yemeni people. Lenderking reiterated the unwavering commitment of the United States to the peace process in Yemen.

In addition to supporting Yemeni-Yemeni talks and the Yemeni economy, Lenderking emphasized the need for a diplomatic framework to reduce escalation. He highlighted the international consensus to support the peace process in Yemen, emphasizing the importance of creating a conducive environment for dialogue and reconciliation.
