Peruvian Authorities Thwart Alleged Plot by Iranian National

Lima, Peru – Peruvian police have arrested an Iranian man suspected of plotting an attack on an Israeli citizen in the South American country.

General Óscar Arriola, Peru’s police chief, announced the arrest at a press conference on Friday. The suspect, identified as 56-year-old Majid Azizi, is accused of being a member of Iran’s Quds Force, an elite unit of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard known for its foreign operations.

Authorities allege Azizi entered Lima on March 3rd and planned to kill an Israeli citizen before returning to Iran. They did not disclose the target’s identity for security reasons.

Acting on intelligence from foreign sources, Peruvian police apprehended Azizi along with two Peruvian accomplices. A search for a third Peruvian suspect believed to be the mastermind behind the plot is ongoing.

This marks the first time Peruvian authorities have publicly announced the arrest of a suspected Quds Force member. The incident raises concerns about potential Iranian activity in South America, a region with a history of tensions between Iran and Israel.

General Arriola praised the success of the operation, highlighting the importance of international cooperation in combating terrorism. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities seeking to determine the full extent of the alleged plot.
